“I get inspiration from plants, fruit, old magazines, and my teachers and friends. I love that my city celebrates art, with murals and all kinds of festivals.”

“Limelight” received a Scholastic Silver Key Award in 2020 for drawing and illustration.
My name is Amelia H. and I’m in 8th grade in Virginia. In school I took Art I and then a Found Object Sculpture class after school. Though we aren’t going to school anymore, my art teachers are continuing to teach through Zoom meetings and prompts. I’ve experimented in many mediums of art, including collage, assemblage, painting, graphite, polymer clay, oil pastels, and others. My current favorite is acrylic paint.
I get inspiration from plants, fruit, old magazines, and my teachers and friends. I love that my city celebrates art, with murals and all kinds of festivals. Some artists I like are Georgia O’Keeffe, Howardena Pindell, Katsushika Hokusai, and Ed Trask.
